How to Defeat Tapu Bulu

As Alolan Pokémon continue to appear in Pokémon Go, the latest legendary to join the roster is the bull-like ‘Land Spirit’ Pokémon Tapu Bulu. Unsurprisingly for a pokémon modeled after a deity, this Tier 5 legendary raid boss is no walk in the park. However, we have just the ticket to optimize your assault.

As a Tier 5 legendary, the safest bet is to rope in a full six-player team for the battle. Though high-level players can still get away with a team of four. Players will of course want to kit themselves out with a plucky team of counters. Luckily, selecting the right team shouldn’t be too difficult.

The Best Type Advantages For Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu is a Grass/Fairy type Pokémon modeled on the Hawaiian god of agriculture. As such, doubly-effective Poison-type moves are your best bet. A team chock-full of Sludge Bombs should be enough to have this legendary quaking in its shell. But there are plenty of other options for your arsenal including Fire, Flying, Ice and Steel attacks.

The same can be said of Poison-types defensively, with Fire and Steel-types also proving to be ample bulwarks (like ol’ faithful Metagross). An ideal team to defeat Tapu Bulu might comprise the following:

  • (Mega) Beedrill w/ Poison Jab & Sludge Bomb
  • (Mega) Gengar w/ Shadow Claw & Sludge Bomb
  • Roserade w/ Poison Jab & Sludge Bomb
  • (Mega) Venusaur w/Vine Whip & Sludge Bomb
  • Victreebel w/Acid & Sludge Bomb
  • (Mega) Charizard w/Fire Spin & Blast Burn

Though rest assured, a team of Poison/Fire/Steel types should be more than enough to bring Tapu Bulu to heel.

As for who to avoid bringing along to the fray – steer well clear of Dragon-types. The Fairy type is a terrifying prospect for any Dragon, as they can shrug off a Draco Meteor as if it was a flurry of snowflakes and deliver the ultimate smack-down with Dazzling Gleam.

It’s also best to avoid bringing any Fighting, Dark, Ground, Rock and Water types to this tussle. Meaning the sought-after Kommo-o should sit this one out.

Trainers can have a shot at PokemonTapu Bulu from now until 26th April, meaning there’s still time to get that ideal team together. Once caught, however, Tapu Bulu is a must-have ace up one’s sleeve. So get training and gather those friends together ASAP.
