While the Pokémon Go ‘Welcome to Alola’ event has officially drawn to a close, that’s not to say that there aren’t plenty of Go Alola events in the pipeline. And one such event is tomorrow’s Festival of Colors, which is set to bestow plenty of perks on  Go players in India, whilst introducing the colorful dancing bird Pokémon, Oricorio, to players around the world.

Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, the Festival of Love or the Festival of Spring, is a Hindu festival that is celebrated worldwide thanks to the Indian diaspora. Its celebration of love and color is an appropriate premise on which to hold a Go Alola event, given the colorful nature of the seventh generation of Pokémon games.

Pokemon

As such, Niantic has resolved to unveil one of Alola’s most colorful Pokémon, Oricorio, during the global event, which will take place from March 15-20.

Known as the ‘Dancing P’, the flying-type Oricorio can also be fire, electric, psychic or ghost-type depending on the region in which it is caught. For Pokémon Go, this means a different variant depending on where in the world the player is from. These are as follows:

  • Baile Style Oricorio (Fire/Flying) – Europe, the Middle East and Africa
  • Pom-Pom Style Oricorio (Electric/Flying) – The Americas
  • Pa’u Style Oricorio (Psychic/Flying) – African, Asian, Pacific and Caribbean Islands
  • Sensu Style Oricorio (Ghost/Flying) – Asia-Pacific region

We’re a big fan of this mechanic, with Oricorio variants being based around the regions their styles are inspired by whilst encouraging players from around the world to trade in order to complete their collection.

Other features of the latest Pokémon Go Alola event include a Colorful Collection Challenge with lucrative rewards, as well as four-hour long Lure Modules.

But for Pokémon Go players in India, there’s even more to look forward to in the games department. Between 18th – 20th March, players can participate in a regional challenge to catch a whopping 2 million Pokémon between them. Reaching this target will bestow on all participants a 2x Catch Candy reward. So be sure to maximize on that bonus by stocking up on some Pinap Berries.

Players in India will also be able to access a special event box containing a Lucky Egg, Lure Module, Rainy Lure Module and Mossy Lure Module for 125 coins. Worldwide players will also be able to buy themed threads, including color-splashed t-shirts, throughout the event.
