Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link

As part of the 20th anniversary Tokyo celebrations for the iconic Kingdom Hearts game series, Square Enix has just announced not one, but two new Kingdom Hearts games. There is of course the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4, the latest game in the Kingdom Hearts main series. But we suspect by the fact that you’re here, that it’s the new Kingdom Hearts new mobile game that interests you: Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.

Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link is not the first Kingdom Hearts app game. Kingdom Hearts Union x has been out for a while in various locations, though it doesn’t capture Kingdom Hearts’ iconic style, instead opting for cartoonish 2.5D graphics and fairly generic gameplay.

Little is known about the new Kingdom Hearts app game, Missing-Link, but we have managed to source a few official details. The game is still in development, with a closed beta expected later in 2022. Unlike their previous mobile adaptations, the title will feature voice acting and at least three playable characters. It will take place in Scala ad Caelum, and it will grant players the freedom to explore the city on foot or by climbing. Though as indicated by the quote below, players will not be bound by its city walls.

“Fans can also look forward to Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, an all-new game for iOS and Android devices, which allows players to embark on adventures from the realm of Scala ad Caelum into the real world,” Square Enix noted in their accompanying press release. “Players will be able to engage in exhilarating battles against the Heartless and discover a new, original story. A closed beta test is planned for 2022.”

Finally, we know that this new mobile game will be available on iOS and Android, though we cannot say for certain if it will be available in all countries.

In both gameplay and aesthetic respects, the new Kingdom Hearts mobile game looks set to play more like the console games, with action-based combat as opposed to turn-based. It’s safe to say we’re looking forward to seeing some of that Disney magic (literally) turning the tides against the heartless.

Early impressions look good, but before you get all Goofy for the trailer, it’s worth noting Square Enix’ disclaimer that the footage and aesthetic is subject to change.
