App Games That You Should Be Playing Right Now!
2021 was such a great year for app games as we were introduced to a vast of new free-to-play games to explore. Genres like Action RPG, Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), and Augmented Reality have become increasingly popular in recent years and they are continuously dominating the market today. Well-established titles like Genshin Impact and League of Legends: Wild Rift have remained top contenders while newcomers like the immersive RPG “Fantasian” and the action-packed Rocket League Sideswipe made a remarkable impression in the gaming community.
PUBG also brought a new entry with their newest spin-off “PUBG New State” that took us all in a futuristic battle royale. Interestingly, we are also welcoming this new year with a bang! Although we are just getting started, we are expecting this year to pave way to some bigger titles. Some giant PC games are expected to make their way to the mobile platform this year including Valorant Mobile, Apex Legends, and the highly anticipated Diablo Immortal. We are also expecting a new Final Fantasy game as well as new Clash games from Supercell. Now, if you are still stuck with the good ol’ Candy Crush Saga on your phone, you’re definitely missing out a lot! It is time to step up your game to another level so we are listing down ten of the newest free-to-play app games that you should definitely be playing right now!
Rush Royale: Tower Defense
From the same studio that brought Hustle Castle and Zero City comes a new app game that brings a new take to the classic tower defense battle. Rush Royale is a tower defense game that is smartly incorporated with PvP elements similar to Crash Royale. You play the game in the classic TD fashion in which your main goal is to prevent the enemies from breaking through your defenses while competing against another player in real-time. To do so, you randomly summon units (using mana points) and upgrade them to make them more efficient. The first player to lose all the life points will be defeated. Aside from the main campaign, Rush Royale also offers Co-op Mode, Tournaments, Clan system, Quests, Customizable and upgradable card decks, season passes, and generous rewards.
After the success of Pokemon GO, these adorable monsters are now taking over the online battle arena with Pokemon Unite. TiMi Studio is not really new to MOBAs and MMOs as they brought some well-established app games titles like Arena of Valor, Call of Duty, and PUBG on the table. Like the aforementioned games, it seems like Pokemon Unite shares the same level of success. It is done and played in a classic MOBA style where two teams of five players will enter an epic battle. The team with the most scored points wins the match. While the battle system itself is very much formulaic, Pokemon Unite comes with many unique features to elevate your MOBA experience. For instance, the game features a unique mapping system that your team can utilize to build an effective strategy against the opposing party. If you are a certified Pokemon fan, this game is absolutely a great addition to your device.
Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!
There is no better word to describe this free-to-play mobile game other than being nostalgic. The iconic PlayStation game finally made its way to mobile app games! Crash Bandicoot: On the Run is developed and published by King, the same team behind the successful Candy Crush Saga. It features all the familiar characters we love including Crash himself, his sister Coco, and the evil Doctor Neo Cortex. Interestingly, instead of the classic platformer setup, this mobile game is an endless runner similar to Temple Run and Subway Surfer. The objective is, of course, to defeat Doctor Neo and his pesky minions. It takes you to different maps that are inspired by the classic video game along with some familiar soundtracks that will add a more nostalgic experience!
If you love Pokemon Go, you will surely enjoy Pikmin Bloom. Created by the same team behind Pokemon Go, Niantic finally brought the adorable Pikmin to mobile for the very first time. Unlike its predecessors, Pikmin Bloom is done and played in an entirely different format. Similar to Pokemon Go, this is an Augmented Reality game where players are mainly encouraged to wander and spend their time outdoors in an attempt to locate hidden Pikmin. Here, you can take real photographs with your virtual Pikmin or better yet participate in some collaborative multiplayer events that will be available for you as you progress.
Super Rabbit World
Super Rabbit World is quite an underrated mobile game from Filaret Studio but certainly has a huge potential. It follows a story of a brave Rabbit and his heroic journey to save his girlfriend. Generally, this is a Super Mario-esque game that takes you to a series of challenging levels with a varying range of difficulties. While the game claims that it is not a clone of Super Mario, you can still spot a great number of Super Mario references. Despite embracing the classic platformer formula, what really sets this game apart are the impressive graphics. It takes you to a visually stunning 3D map that is complemented with modern special effects, beautiful sceneries, and good music editing.
Cats In Time
If you are up for some challenging physics-based puzzles, Cats in Time is a perfect fit! Putting adorable felines on the main spot is seemingly an effective formula for a mobile game. Just think of the surprising success of HyperBeard’s Adorable Home and how it became an instant hit to many gamers. Cats In Time is a puzzle game created by Pine Studio, a team of developers specializing in escape and puzzle-rich mobile games. As the title suggests, this game follows the story of a scientist who invented a time machine that accidentally sent all his cats into different timelines. Your goal is to travel back in time and rescue all the cats by solving numerous physics-based puzzles that will surely put your skills and knowledge to a test.
Tomb Raider Reloaded
If King managed to bring Crash Bandicoot into the mobile platform, Emerald City Games and Square Enix brought another iconic PlayStation hero. Four years after the release of her last game and also in celebration of her 25th anniversary, Lara Croft is back for another epic treasure hunting adventure. Tomb Raider Reloaded is an arcade game that is done and played in an entirely different format and that quickly separates itself from the original game series. It is presented in a top-down perspective and your goal is to complete all levels by eliminating enemies and solving puzzles that you will encounter along the way. As you progress, you will earn skills that can increase your attributes and overall efficiency. Despite the huge differences with the gameplay, players can still have that classic Tomb Raider vibe to it, making it more nostalgic.
Call of Duty: Mobile Season 2
When TiMi Studio released the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Mobile in 2019, it was a massive hit for app games. It quickly received an overwhelmingly huge following from old and new COD fans. Unlike the original video game, Call of Duty: Mobile offers multiple modes including the famous Battle Royale where 100 players will be deployed into the battlefield and fight against each other until only one of them survives. This year, Call of Duty: Mobile will introduce us to a brand-new second season. It offers a vast of amazing changes including a new map inspired by Modern Warfare, a new set of weapons, a scorestreak system that gives you the ability to control an armed helicopter, and more!
Star Wars: Hunters
If you are a Star Wars fan, this game is definitely something you can add to your growing Star Wars game collection. The newly released mobile game from Zynga is now on its Early Access phase which will take place at the end of the Galactic Civil War. Unlike EA’s Galaxy of Heroes, this game is not about a stormtrooper killing spree but a competitive arena combat game that works similarly to video games like Overwatch and Valorant. Here, two teams of four players will engage in an epic battle while utilizing their weapons and skills. It will introduce us to a new set of characters including a Wookie warrior, an Imperial Stormtrooper, and a bounty hunter. Each hero comes with its own set of special skills and is also highly customizable. To top it all, the game also offers different exciting PVP game modes to explore. Not to mention the visually stunning graphics and immersive 3D map that make this game worth exploring.
When it comes to horror survival adventure for mobile app games, it is either a hit or a miss.
