What We Know about Genshin Impact 3.0

True to form, HoYoverse is rolling out updates thick and fast for their flagship title, Genshin Impact. But nevermind the upcoming 2.8 update going live on July 13, 2022.  All eyes are currently on Genshin Impact 3.0, which is set to introduce a cavalcade of exciting new content recently revealed through teasers (and, of course, a smattering of leaks).

Genshin Impact 3.0 will bring us to the sunny Sumeru region for the first time. This desert-themed area houses the Sumeru Academia and worships Genshin Impact’s god of wisdom, Lesser Lord Kusanali. The region isn’t all scorching sands, however, as lush rainforest oases litter the landscape. Which is fitting, as it will also introduce us to our first playable Dendro-wielders.

Dendro has been on the Genshin Impact scene for a while. But the verdant element has eluded the roster of playable characters until now. It is a skill that harnesses the power of plants, with the name itself deriving from the Greek word for “tree”.

With this new elemental power comes new elemental reactions, including Bloom and Catalyze. Bloom has a healing effect that occurs when Dendro mixes with Hydro, while the effects of Catalyze occur when mixing Dendro with Electro. The specific results of Catalyze, however, are yet to be revealed.

Three new characters have been confirmed to be joining the roster with Genshin Impact 3.0, via a recently released ‘interlude teaser’ on HoYoverse’s YouTube channel. These include Dendro archers Collei and Tighnari, and Electro-wielding merchant Dori.

Four more characters have been leaked alongside, though have yet to be confirmed. These include Al Haitham (Dendro/Sword), Dehya (Pyro/Claymore), Nilou (Hydro/Sword) and Nahida (Dendro/Catalyst). As these have only been revealed via leaks, however, it’s probably best to not hold your breath until they have been officially confirmed by HoYoverse – most likely in their upcoming 3.0 livestream.

As for when we can expect the 3.0 update, the prevailing theory is that 24th August is the date to watch out for, given that it is the customary six weeks after the latest update, 2.8. In the meantime, keep a close watch on the official Genshin Impact news page
