Jurassic World Primal Ops App Review:

Dinosaurs are often depicted as villains because most of them are predatory by nature. Thanks to some creative film adaptations like the well-acclaimed Jurassic Park series, we know that greedy humans and their treacherous plans are potentially more dangerous than these prehistoric creatures. In connection with the recently released installment of the ever-growing Jurassic Park franchise – the Jurassic World Dominion, a new mobile game was launched. Developed by the same team behind the Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall comes another epic app game that takes you on an amazing survival adventure. Jurassic World Primal Ops is a top-down action-adventure game where instead of hunting and fighting dinosaurs, they will serve as your trusty companions that will help you rescue the rest of the captive creatures from the hands of merciless and deadly poachers.

Jurassic World Primal Ops Gameplay

While there is a great number of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World-inspired games in the market, most of the decent interpretations can only be played on higher gaming platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, and PC). For mobile platforms, however, Ludia Inc notably developed a collection of Jurassic Park games for Android and iOS devices. These include the recently defunct Jurassic Park Builder (city-building app game), Jurassic World: The Game (park management simulation), and Jurassic World Alive (an Augmented Reality app).

Jurassic World Primal Ops by Behaviour Interactive takes you to the same Jurassic Park universe but features an entirely different group of characters that are exclusively created for the app game. The playable characters in this game are referred to as the Handlers who are capable of summoning various dinosaurs during their mission. The mechanics for the game are generally simple and easily manageable. As soon as the game starts, your initial handler named Mike Riley will be prompted immediately to his first mission. It is important to note that the objectives per level will vary. Some of which might ask you to infiltrate the base of the enemies, exterminate poachers, hack some data, and rescue some captive dinosaurs.

You can easily navigate around the 3D map using the virtual joypad while main actions are done using the designated tap-based buttons. Each handler can bring three dinosaur companions per mission. Each dinosaur comes with unique skills but can only be summoned for a short time. You can do so by simply tapping their icons. There are also missions where you need to fight against other dinosaurs (most replayable missions) with the help of your companions. The mission is accomplished when you successfully clear the target or completed your goal.

A Unique Dinosaur Gacha System

One of the most unique elements of Jurassic World Primal Ops is the gacha system. It features a huge collection of dinosaurs that are seemingly inspired by Jurassic World Alive and Jurassic World: Evolution. Dinosaurs will vary depending on their rarity and skillsets. Some possess unique abilities that are necessary for specific missions. Agujaceratops, for instance, can be used to break gates and resist shield-wielding poachers. Flying dinosaurs like Pteranodon and Aerotitan, on the other hand, can drop explosive barrels from the sky while Liliensternus and Sauropelta are capable of spitting poison and creating shockwaves respectively

Some dinosaurs can be acquired by obtaining their DNA through missions while others are unlocked through Dinosaur crates. Every completed mission will grant you a set of rewards that might include specific Dinosaur DNA and once you have collected enough, the dinosaur will be added to your growing roster. Dinosaur Crates can be accessed through the in-game shop and they can be opened in multiple ways;

  • Free Crates – You can get free crates daily by simply watching a reward video.
  • Common Dinosaur Crates – Players can unlock new common dinosaurs through virtual currency (coins) or a minimal number of Ambers (premium currency)
  • Rare Dinosaur Crates – You need a minimum of 200 Ambers to unlock this crate.
  • Epic Dinosaur Crates – You need a minimum of 400 Ambers to unlock this crate.
  • Handler Crate – You can also obtain Blueprints and Handler XP from this crate which allows you to either upgrade the existing handler or unlock a new one.

Since this is a gacha mechanic, all the rewards are randomly generated by the system and will not always guarantee a better result.

Upgrade Handlers and Dinosaurs

Take note that you can only have three dinosaur companions per mission. Upgrading them is the best thing you can do to make them more efficient on the battlefield while you wait for a better dinosaur with a higher rarity. To do so, visit your Dinosaur Gallery and tap the Level Up button to increase their attributes (Power, Energy, and Damage). Each upgrade requires a certain number of virtual coins and Dinosaur DNA. You can also Rank them up to unlock new skills.

Aside from the dinosaurs, you can also level up your Handler to dramatically increase their power, health, and damage. Upgrading them will also unlock their special skill set which can be extremely beneficial in various missions. Currently, Jurassic World Primal Ops features three main Handlers. These include the primary and first playable character Mike Riley, Broodie T Booker, and Adriana Santos. Each handler comes with a predetermined type of weapon, skills, and abilities that you can upgrade to make them more efficient and effective.

Multiple Campaigns

While the game is notably missing some multiplayer elements which could have made it more engaging, Jurassic World Primal Ops comes with multiple special campaigns and events that players can explore. The main campaign alone is composed of 9 expansive chapters. Each chapter is divided into three acts with an increasing rate of difficulty. It also includes special repeatable levels where you can put dinosaurs in an epic clash.

In addition to the main story mode, players can also explore limited-time events that allow them to win valuable rewards. The duration of each special event may last from 24 hours to seven days. It is also a great opportunity to obtain rare dinosaurs. You can also take advantage of the game’s reward systems including the Daily Quest, Achievements, Daily Login Bonuses, and Reward videos.

Dynamic 3D Maps to Explore

Knowing that Behaviour Interactive is the same creative team behind the well-acclaimed Dead by Daylight video game (one of the best hardcore horror survival games you can play on mobile and other platforms), Jurassic World Primal Ops is equally stunning. It is an absolute visual delight that treats you with beautiful and dynamically changing top-down 3D maps. Each mission features different scenes, weather conditions, action sequences, and cut scenes. Dinosaurs are also neatly designed and executed and offer a great variety. The game also features an official soundtrack composed by Winifred Phillips, the same brilliant composer behind some successful games like Little Big Planets, God of War, and Assassin’s Creed.

Jurassic World Primal Ops is indeed a great adventure game. While it may not be canon to the actual franchise, it provides players the same level of experience. Some elements might be a little repetitive but the game, in general, is absolutely worth exploring. If you are up for an epic dinosaur adventure, make sure not to miss the Jurassic World Primal Ops and see how far you can go! Good Luck!
