World of Warcraft News:
For some World of Warcraft fans, the time spent carrying out errands or going to work is but a necessary period of respite before diving straight back into Azeroth. Well now they can wave goodbye to that in-between time as Blizzard have officially confirmed an upcoming Warcraft app game. At least it won’t be as addictive as the PC-based MMORPG…right?
John Hight, Warcraft’s General Manager, published a blog post yesterday detailing plans for several big reveals over the coming months. These will include the next expansion for World of Warcraft and the mobile-based Hearthstone, as well as a brand new Warcraft app game. This slow reveal process is instead of the annual Blizzcon/Blizzconline, which has been put on the back-burner this year as the studio focuses its energy on its various teams. Wise move, we’d wager.
The first of these reveals will come in just one week, with the Hearthstone development team set to unveil details on the first of three expansions that are due to release this year. Information of the annual core set changes will follow, with a deeper look into the overall plans for the Warcraft competitive card game. Following that will be more information on the ever-anticipated next expansion for WoW.
As for more information on the Warcraft app game, however, we will have to wait until May. We know everyone will want a warcraft download. The blog post states that “we’re preparing to get the first game in the Warcraft Universe designed for mobile into your hands,” insinuating that it will be more of an RPG-based experience than Hearthstone. Or maybe the long-awaited augmented reality answer to Pokémon Go, which has reportedly been in development since as early as 2018.
“Rumors” of a new Warcraft app game for this year began circulating after Activision Blizzard’s fourth quarter financial results stated that 2022 will include “new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time.” So this blog post ‘announcement’ is just repeating that line in a more public capacity with just as little detail. But at least we can rest assured that it’s all but confirmed.
