2024 is definitely going to be a great year for mobile gaming! There are many anticipated app games to look forward to. The year 2023 paved the way for some surprising mobile versions of different well-known franchises like Diablo, Tomb Raider, and Mortal Kombat to name a few. This year, we are expecting to see some anime titles, surprising comebacks, and a couple of huge video game series to hit the small screen.
The mobile game market is constantly changing. In 2022 alone, the market has generated more than $180 billion with more than 90 billion downloads worldwide. It is also expected that the market will be catapulted into a much higher revenue in the succeeding years. It is not surprising why most giant game-developing companies are targeting the platform to reach a wider audience and of course, bigger revenue. This probably explains why we have so many console game titles that were either ported into mobile or gave birth to some spin-offs that were exclusively optimized for mobile devices.
Today, we are going to list down some of the highly anticipated titles that will be released for Android and iOS devices this year.
One Punch Man: World
Developed by Perfect World, the same team behind Tower of Fantasy and Persona 5 comes an open-world action game adapted from the wildly popular anime of the same name. One Punch Man: World takes you to the same yet expanded universe of One Punch Man. It will allow you to explore an immersive open world where you can freely roam around the streets and discover hidden gems at every turn. As the players explore the city, they embark on an epic journey where they will encounter iconic heroes based on the anime, as well as battles against fearsome monsters that will capture the elements that fans enjoy from the anime series.
The recently launched trailer features some of the well-loved characters from the series including Saitama, Genos, and many others. With a captivating narrative, every hero’s persona is further developed, allowing players to immerse themselves in their unique stories and rediscover the exhilarating moments of the original anime. Aside from epic battles, the game also adapts world-building concepts and many other engaging events that will remain faithful to the original material. The game is now open for Pre-registration and is set to be released globally on February 1, 2024.
Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat
One of the highly anticipated games to be released this year is a spin-off from yet another epic video game. Devil May Cry is one of Capcom’s flagship games. The first game, which was released in 2001, follows the story of Dante, a skilled demon hunter who goes on an epic journey to defeat the demons of the underworld. Eventually, due to the massive success, the game became a huge series with five major installments and some other spin-offs. Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat is yet another spin-off game.
While the game was developed and published by NebulaJoy, the game was authorized by Capcom and the original team behind the iconic video game made major contributions to its development. The game is expected to capture the console game’s original combat system and will be based on the events of Devil May Cry 3 with some brand-new plot to explore. The game is now open for pre-registration and is set to be officially released January 2024.
Valorant Mobile was already announced by Riot three years ago, but the game was never released. The anticipation over this epic First-person shooter is becoming more and more overwhelming as years pass by, especially since rival games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty are already on the market. Valorant is described as a 5v5 tactical hero shooter with mechanics that are closely similar to Counter-Strike. Here, the players play as agents of different characters that are based on several countries and cultures around the globe. Each agent comes with distinct skills and signature abilities.
Valorant also comes with multiple campaigns including ranked and non-ranked modes. Unfortunately, there is no official announcement yet on whether the Valorant Mobile will push through this year, but it is confirmed that Riot is indeed developing the mobile version with plans to capture all the elements from the original game.
From the same team behind the Ace Racer game comes another console-grade racing game for mobile. Racing Master is a 3D racing game developed in collaboration with Codemasters (F1 series) and Netease (Diablo Immortal). Based on the recently released trailer, it seems like Racing Game will follow the same format as other racing games from their catalog. It is a real-time simulation racing game that is developed using the Unreal 4 Engine and Codemasters’ very own Ego Engine technology that will provide gamers with a highly realistic driving experience.
Some of the hyper-realistic cars that will be playable in this upcoming game include Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Koenigsegg, and Astin Martin to name a few. It will also offer realistic customization and tuning system which makes you feel that you are part of a real race. It also takes you to immersive maps. Considering the console-grade quality of the F1 series and Ace Racer, Racing Master will surely offer the same impressive graphics and animation. The game is now open for pre-registration and is planned to be released in March 2024.
Zenless Zone Zero
The universe of miHoYo is constantly evolving and growing. After the success of Genshin Impact, miHoYo recently launched Honkai: Star Rail, the latest addition to their Honkai series which also became equally successful. This year, the studio is releasing a new title – the Zenless Zone Zero. The game is described as an urban fantasy action role-playing game that comes with roguelike mechanics. Zenless Zone Zero will take you to the place known as New Eridu where you play the role of what is referred to as a “proxy” with the mission to help others explore hostile alternate dimensions.
As a proxy, you must gather or recruit members to your party and fight against Ethereal monsters. The game will give you some futuristic and post-apocalyptic atmosphere along with miHoYo’s signature anime-inspired characters. Much like the Genshin Impact and Honkai series, the game will most likely feature a gacha system which will allow you to gather new members. There is no specific date yet, but the game is confirmed to be released in 2024.
Path of Exile Mobile
Ever since Path of Exile was launched in 2013, it received a cult following. While the game shares a lot of notable elements from the Diablo game series, Path of Exile (PoE) is still special and unique on its own. The game takes you to a dark fantasy world where you play one of the exiles. The player will be asked to choose from seven playable classes, and each comes with its own skills and abilities. The goal is to defeat all the ancient gods and evils that you will encounter along the way. Grinding Gear Games is currently working on a sequel – the Path of Exile 2, which is set to take place 20 years after the events of the first game.
However, it was also announced by the Studio that they are also working with a mobile version of PoE. It was first announced in 2019 but due to many circumstances, including the global pandemic, the project was seemingly shelved for a while. Interestingly, it was recently announced that Path of Exile 2 will have a closed beta release this coming June 2024 and the Path of Exile Mobile is rumored to be launched after the release of the much-awaited sequel. Also, PoE Mobile is said to take place 20 years before the first game, making it a prequel to this growing franchise.
Speaking of throwbacks, nothing can be more nostalgic than this news! Neopets are set to come back and are hitting the mobile screen soon. Neopets is a virtual pet game that was launched as a browser game in the late 90s. Aside from its unique pet system, the game also introduced immersive advertising which soon changed the landscape of traditional online marketing practice. Neopets were acquired by many companies all through the years. It was bought by Viacom in 2005 followed by JumpStart Games in 2014. In 2017, it was acquired by NetDragon.
However, when the Flash Player support ended in 2020, it seemed like the studio failed to have a successful transition from Flash to HTML5. In June of 2023, the studio officially announced the closure of Neopets. They even had an attempt to venture to NFT but failed. Interestingly, Neopets was recently bought from NetDragon by an independent company (World of Neopia Inc) with plans to make massive and meaningful changes to the classic game. While the new studio confirmed that they are planning to revamp the website and make it more mobile-friendly, they are also planning to develop mobile apps to expand the Neopets universe. Also, they are probably planning to launch something special as they celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary.
Seven Deadly Sins Origins
Seven Deadly Sins is one of Netmarble’s flagship games along with popular titles like Lineage II, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds, and a couple of Marvel games. Generally, the game is based on the popular manga and anime of the same name. Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross which is sometimes referred to as 7DSGC follows the events that took place in the first season of the anime. Here, each chapter is broken up into episodes, and each episode takes place in a specific area on the World Map. Following the success of the Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross, Netmarble recently announced that they will be launching another mobile game – the Seven Deadly Sins: Origins.
It will be an open-world game that will take place in the same universe and this time, the game will feature an original story and an original character. Based on the trailer released by Netmarble, the combat system for this game is seemingly similar to some popular open-world RPGs today, including miHo’o’s Genshin Impact. It seems like Seven Deadly Sins: Origins is embracing the same format and will follow the same path. There are no official announcements yet regarding the release date, but it is reported to be launched anytime this year.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade
Another big title that will be heading to the small screen this year is the Assassin’s Creed. Developed by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed has become one of the most successful game franchises in history. The popular series has expanded to a total of 13 games, all of which take you to an immersive open world. As you play the role of an assassin, your core objective is mostly about engaging in combat, stealth, and exploration. All the games in the franchise are exclusively developed for consoles.
